Intermediate Diving: Ages 5-18Sports, Health & Fitness***Prerequisites: Must be confident swimmer in deep water. Age is not as important as willingness to try new things.*** Learn basic springboard diving skills, diving safety, and how to use the diving board with proper technique. You'll increase your flexibility and have lots of fun! Beginning divers with little or no previous instruction are welcome. During this class, divers will learn the fundamentals of diving including: front approach with hurdle, front dive, back press, back dive, inward dive, front somersault. Often divers will take this class more than one time to achieve proficiency in the skills expected in Intermediate Diving. When the diver is ready to move to Intermediate, coaches will move them up even during the middle of a session. Intro to Woodworking: Make & Take a Rustic Wood Jack O Lantern - IntergenerationalLifelong LearningMake your own rustic wooden jack o'lantern and get an introduction to woodworking. With assistance of an instructor, you will use the miter saw and table saw to cut the pieces and the jig saw or scroll saw to cut out the jack o' lantern face. You can refine the face with a rasp and sand paper and then assemble the box with wood glue and a nail gun or brad nails. We will leave an opening in the back to insert a battery-operated candle. Finally you will use an orbital sander to smooth out your entire box Students ages 16+ are welcome to attend with an adult. Both adult and child must register and pay. No prior woodworking experience is required but you are welcome to come if you are experienced. Introduction to Foraging: Discovering Wild Foods - IntergenerationalLifelong LearningFall offers many tasty opportunities for the growing forager! Join Maria Wesserle of Four Season Foraging in this introductory class about common wild edibles. We will start inside for a slideshow presentation, then move outdoors to explore wild edible plants of the autumn landscape. Together we will learn about laws and ethics around foraging, as well as identification, harvest, and preparation of edible species. Please dress for the weather (rain or shine!) and be prepared to walk around a mile. Plants we will probably encounter include nettle, cut-leaf coneflower, wild carrot, and many others! You will leave with a newfound appreciation for the wild plants that grow all around us plus a greater sense of confidence in foraging your own food!
