Skillbuilding: Intro to Lathe, Bowl TurningLifelong LearningDuring this introduction to bowl turning class, students will have the opportunity to work on their own green bowl, being able to take a finished bowl home at the end of class. As part of learning this process, class will cover the basics of parts of the lathe, how to mount and secure a bowl blank, using the proper tools, and learning how to turn the inside and outside of a bowl. During the first part of class, students make the outside of their bowl, while the second part of class will be focused on carving out the inside. Skillbuilding: Intro to Lathe, Bowl TurningLifelong LearningDescription: In this class you'll learn how to turn a small bowl or dish. The course will start with the anatomy of a lathe, staying safe while turning, and appropriate technique for carbide tools (steel tools will be discussed). We will go through the process of mounting a blank, how to properly shape a tenon, and the process of hollowing. We will end with sanding, and there will be options to either finish on or off the lathe depending on intended use or preference. All materials will be provided. Skillbuilding: Intro to Lathe, Spindle TurningLifelong LearningIn this class you'll learn the ins and outs of spindle turning. The course will start with the anatomy of a lathe and safety while turning, before learning to mount blanks and how to use both carbide and steel tools. Materials will be provided to turn a handle for a screwdriver (the driver itself will be included) or a mallet, or you may come with your own project in mind (feel free to reach out to me in advance of the class if you have another idea, like making a new knob for a bench plane or handle for a chisel).
