Glass Fusing is the technique of joining two or more pieces of glass by heat in a kiln. There are different glass fusing techniques. For example, “tack fusing” is a fusing technique in which the pieces of glass are heated until they are just hot enough to stick together and retain many of their own original characteristics or textures. In a “full fuse”, on the other hand, glass is heated until it becomes molten. Once fused, these glass pieces can then be slumped into a dish-shaped mold (“What Is Fusing?” Bullseye Glass Co.). Create a trio of festive fused glass ornaments in this seasonal Kiln Glass Experience. You’ll design three 3” x 3” ornaments using colorful glass accents and decorative elements to reflect your personal style. Whether whimsical, elegant, or classic, these handmade ornaments make meaningful holiday décor or thoughtful gifts. Projects are participant-designed, with guidance from instructors who will introduce the tools, equipment, and safety practices used in kiln-formed glass. You’ll learn how to cut sheet glass and be guided through creating your own piece—cutting, shaping, layering, and arranging colored glass to produce a one-of-a-kind design. Kiln-forming offers a controlled alternative to working with molten glass in the hotshop, allowing for greater precision and detail. This experience is slightly slower paced than Hot Glass Discoveries and does not involve hot equipment. No experience is required and all materials are provided. 2 hours in duration. Age Requirements: Minors ages 9-13 are allowed to participate with a parent/guardian who has also purchased a seat in the same class. (Our studio space cannot accommodate additional non-participating spectators, and youth under the age of 14 cannot attend alone for safety reasons.) Create your own stained glass suncatcher with the help of an instructor during this Stained Glass Discovery Experience. Each student will get their own workstation equipped with a soldering iron and all the tools and glass needed to create your suncatcher. An experienced instructor will lead with a demonstration and guide individuals through the process. Students choose to make a geometric design, and then copper foil, solder, and attach a chain to complete their piece. Suncatcher size may vary (approximately 4”x4”), one suncatcher per person. Projects will be ready to take home upon class completion. No experience is required and all materials are provided. 3 hours in duration. Great Decisions Coffee Hour is BACK this fall. We're bringing the coffee hour back and we're moving the event to one of the coolest and best new coffee shops in the SW metro. Join us for 4 Wednesdays this fall from 9am to 10:30am at Brim Cafe & Coffee Edina for the most interesting and engaging 90 minutes of your week. There's no shortage of praise for Brim Cafe & Coffee. To kickstart the Great Decisions 2027 series, we will be hosting a kickoff Great Decisions event on Monday, November 9 from 4pm to 5:30pm in room 348 at the Edina Community Center. Rob is fluent in English, German, Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese. He graduated from Carleton College in 1966 and spent much of the past 50 years working and living in various countries in Latin America. While working in Latin America, he observed the emergence of China as the primary trading partner for most of the countries in the region – and this led him to follow China’s emergence more closely. In the community, he is a 45-year volunteer and former Chair of Global Minnesota and until recently served as Founding Director for the Venn Foundation.
