Writing the College Application Essay: Gr. 10-12Expand Your World & EnrichmentAs college deadlines approach, one of the most common things students struggle with is the college essay. Navigating how to stand out from the pack while remaining true and thoughtful to your own story can be a challenge. Students taking this course will learn how to unpack what the essay writing prompts are asking of them and brainstorm a variety of possible topics for their work. Students will have the opportunity to write and revise essays for their own writing portfolio and receive specific instructor feedback. At the end of the week, each student should have 1-2 strong examples of essays that have been both peer and teacher reviewed. Yarn Weavings with Mme French-Amara: Gr. 1-2Art, Theater, Music & CreativityCreate multiple unique and creative yarn weavings! Over this 5-day class, students will be creating their own small hand woven works of art. With the guidance and inspiration of Normandale Elementary' s licensed and experienced art specialist, Mme Leanne French-Amara, students will be weaving with yarn, fabric, and ribbon. Students will be weaving these different textures into a variety of looms. Our looms will be constructed from cardboard, sticks, paper, and wood. Mme French-Amara has been an art specialist for 30 years, 17 of those years at Normandale Elementary School. She has also been an artist and craft creator since she was in elementary school! Yoga for Core & Pelvic Floor StrengthFitness/AquaticsAll three sections of this class are being offered hybrid. You may attend in person here at the Edina Community Center or online in your own home. You will receive the Zoom link in your confirmation letter from Eleyo. In this class we will explore the foundational moves of the Restore Your Core® movement method. Through a mind-body lens, we will explore strength and mobility of the joints, core engagement, and how the breath contributes to healing. Students will learn new ways to bring more balance, strength, and mobility into the body, with the goal of reducing or eliminating core and pelvic floor injuries and dysfunction.
