Golf Squad is an afterschool enrichment program that brings Golf Professionals from your local area to your school campus to give a once-a-week lesson to the students. Golf Squad Professionals focus on teaching the fundamentals of the game of golf as well as valuable life lessons that help the students develop. Some fundamentals of the game that the students will learn include putting, chipping, full swing irons, full swing woods. They will also learn relationship building, proper etiquette, and rules of the game, and the students will receive a book and a hat. Students don't need to bring any equipment. Professor Latham’s primary scholarly interests are in the areas of international relations and political thought. He regularly teaches courses on international security, Chinese foreign policy, regional conflict in the Middle East, regional conflict in the Asia-Pacific, medieval political thought, US foreign policy, and conservative political theory. His most recent publication is Theorizing Medieval Geopolitics: War and World Order in the Age of the Crusades. He has also published a novel about the Third Crusade entitled The Holy Lance. He earned his Ph.D. in Political Science from Illinois in 1995, where he was the recipient of the Harriet and Charles Luckman Award for Distinguished Undergraduate Teaching, and the College of Liberal Arts Award for Distinguished Teaching by a Graduate Assistant. He has been a member of the Political Science Department at Gustavus since 1996, where he teaches courses in International Relations, Comparative Politics, Asian Politics, Environmental Politics, and the Politics of Poverty. In 2000 he received the Swenson-Bunn Award for Teaching Excellence at Gustavus, and in 2008 the Edgar M. Carlson Award for Distinguished Teaching. He has homes in both Minnesota and Moscow, and has written more than 680 articles, which appeared weekly in Rossiske Vesti, the political newspaper of the Russian Presidential administration, as well as other Russian newspapers. Todd is on the editorial board for the Russian Historical Review, a quarterly journal, as well as being the English editor for four Russian books. Todd has worked in Russia for over 32 years. Todd has taught sociology and urban affairs at the University of Minnesota and political science, international relations, political philosophy, political campaign management, leadership and organizational development at other Minnesota colleges. He has lectured at universities in Russia, China, Germany, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan. He has an M.A. in Public Administration and coursework for a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota and has studied public policy as Bush Fellow at Harvard and urban planning at the University of Manchester, England. He is one of the founders of Global Volunteers and has been their Treasurer and representative at the United Nations and serves on their Board of Trustees. He is currently Chairperson of the Russian-American Business and Culture Council. April 13 - Professor Ellen Kennedy - The Future of Human Rights and International Law Ellen J. Kennedy, Ph.D., is the founder and Executive Director of World Without Genocide, a human rights organization located at Mitchell Hamline School of Law in St. Paul, where she is an adjunct professor. Kennedy was named an Outstanding Citizen by the Anne Frank Center in New York, a Prominent Minnesotan, and one of ’50 over 50’ in Minnesota for her work. She received the FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award and the Liberty Bell Award from the Ramsey County Bar Association for advancing human rights and the law. She is a recipient of the Alumni of Distinction award from Northern Michigan University, Woman of Valor award from Forward Global Women, and Changemaker award from Minnesota Women’s Press. Kennedy is a representative to the United Nations Department of Global Communications and World Without Genocide is in Special Consultative Status to the United Nations. Edina Gymnastics provides safe, affordable gymnastics instruction through developmental classes. These classes are geared to help gymnasts progress, whether it be individual skills or preparing them for competition. All classes are led by current Edina High School gymnastics coaches and Varsity level gymnasts. Please note, there are discrepancies in the catalogue to what the actual details of the class is. Connect with your creative side and join us for our no-experience-required art class. Jeremy Ross from Your Bearded Artist will guide you through hand knitting your very own soft, chunky blanket. During this one-of-a-kind event, Jeremy will guide you step-by-step. No needles or knitting experience is required and all supplies will be provided. You will receive 140 yards (5 skeins) of size 7 chunky yarn (100% polyester) available in a variety of colors. Your completed blanket will measure approximately 40”x50”. Families can join in on the blanket making fun. Ages 8 and up if accompanied by an adult are welcome to join. Sometimes working as a 2 person family team is a great way to make sure the young ones get the attention they need. Come and join the beginning of a new-to-Edina program focusing on the development of percussionists/drummers through the thrilling and enjoyable medium of bucket drums. This introduction to percussion and performance class is great for learning the basics of rhythms, rudimentary drumming, reading music and ensemble performance. This class is perfect for all experience levels, whether your student is picking up sticks for the first time or wanting to continue their learning and performing as a drummer. At the end of the session our ensemble will perform at an all school assembly to showcase what they’ve learned. Basic Home Electrical Repair Class 1 & 2 combined: Week 1: Learn about the basic home electrical system, different gauges of wire, application and safety. Proper techniques discussed for stripping wire, attaching to outlets, switches and light fixtures, as well as test equipment. We will compare different light bulbs and proper selection of LED light bulbs. Bring straight and Phillips screwdrivers, long nose pliers and wire stripping pliers to class if you have them. Handouts included with the class. Hands-on. Week 2: Continue learning about home electrical repair by attending this “hands-on” class. Prerequisite: Basic Home Electrical Repair Class I. You will install single pole and 3-way switches, outlets and light fixtures to energize a light bulb and test the circuit. We will discuss proper installation of different light fixtures and ceiling fan and how to rewire a lamp and repair extension cords. Please bring straight and Phillips screwdriver, wire stripper, and long-nose pliers to class if you have them. Handouts included with the class. HORNET FLAG FOOTBALL CAMP focuses on the player's development by improving speed and agility while teaching fundamental position-specific skills. Improve skill development and learn rules of the game all through an enthusiastic, positive approach. Participate in engaging, fun drills and then take that learning to the field playing flag football games.
