During your Glassblowing Discovery experience, you will work one-on-one with an experienced instructor to make one hollow, blown pumpkin sculpture! Our instructors will explain the safety, equipment, and tools that glassblowers use every day to create their art. Participants will have the glassblowing process demonstrated and explained to them, and then one at a time will be coached through the steps of creating a beautiful, colorful piece of their own. This hands-on process will include collecting color onto the surface of molten glass and shaping it with a variety of specialty tools while sitting at the glassblower’s bench. Not comfortable with some of the steps or equipment involved in hot glass making? Fear not, our instructors will adapt to your level of comfort in the hotshop to ensure a wonderful experience. After you complete payment in your cart on our website, you will receive an additional confirmation email from administrative staff within 48 hours providing all the necessary details for your visit. Please note that although you will be glassblowing, this class does not require placing mouths onto the glassblowing pipes. Hand pumps or blowhoses are used to inflate the piece along with the instructor's assistance to ensure quality. Participants will have the opportunity to design and assist in creating their piece, but will be guided and assisted by instructors in order to avoid the piece breaking. 2 hour duration. No experience is required and all materials are provided. Class Size: Strictly limited to 4 individuals per session. Due to safety reasons no additional non-participating spectators or guests may join you for your experience, since space and seating is limited. Due to the complexity of the object, large groups unfortunately cannot be accommodated. For individuals who need accommodations or have caretakers, reach out to us in advance so we can advise on how to best prepare for your time at the studio and modify our space if needed to ensure a seamless experience! Project Pickup: Due to hot glass needing to be cooled at a slow rate over at least 18 hours, participants will not be able to leave with their projects the day-of. Completed pieces will be ready for pickup within 7 days following your reservation. Shipping can be arranged the day of your reservation with the front desk staff for a fee, though it is not always advised with delicate pumpkin stems. Age Requirements: Minors ages 9-13 are allowed to participate with a parent/guardian who has also purchased a seat in the same class. (Our studio space cannot accommodate additional non-participating spectators, and youth under the age of 14 cannot attend alone for safety reasons.) This hands-on process will include collecting color onto the surface of molten glass and shaping it with a variety of specialty tools while sitting at the glassblower’s bench.
