How to Talk to Children about Death and DyingLifelong LearningChildren become aware of death at the sighting of their first dead bug or bird while exploring their surroundings. Taking these natural occurrences, adults can build a foundation of knowledge for children of all ages. Talking about death can feel overwhelming or scary, but it doesn’t have to be. Whether it is the death of a pet or a human loved one, we will discuss how to start a conversation with children, and ways to add information based on an individual child’s age and development. We will discuss recommended words and language, and things to consider when having these conversations. We will discuss children's comprehension of death and typical behaviors grieving children may exhibit. We will share recommended resources and give opportunities to ask questions. This class will be helpful to adults whether they have children, or spend time with children (eg: family members, schools or childcare). We want everyone to feel prepared to have these conversations. This class is virtual/online. ___________________________________________________________________ Please read our Adult Programming Overview page for all info regarding registration, cancellation, and building info.
