This evidence-based 2SLGBTQIA+ training covers key concepts and general terms relating to gender and sexuality, practical skills for being in allyship with 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, and grounds the group in intersectionality principles to create safer, more inclusive school environments. Educational Objectives (Attendees will leave with the following): Key 2SLGBTQIA+ concepts, terms, and definitions Practical skills for working with trans, gender non-conforming, and Two Spirit populations in particular A working definition of intersectionality, a brief introduction to its origins, and ways that intersectionality frameworks can create safer, more inclusive school environments This training discusses the concept of intersectionality through a Black Queer Feminist Lens. We will also discuss LGBTQIA2S+ history and a broader overview of intersecting liberation movements. There will be time to discuss your own identities and how intersectionality may impact you and those around you. From shifting alliances to major conflicts, climate diplomacy to global trade, the past year has been packed with international developments. Join us for an engaging look back at the major foreign policy events that shaped the world. We’ll explore key moments, examine underlying trends, and discuss what they might mean for the future with Tom Hanson. Perfect for curious minds who want to stay informed and make sense of a rapidly changing global landscape. No prior experience with foreign policy needed—just bring your questions and curiosity! Thomas Hanson is a former U.S. Foreign Service Officer with the Department of State whose diplomatic postings included East Germany, France, Norway, the Soviet Union, Sweden, and the former Soviet Republic of Georgia. He also participated in the opening of new U.S. embassies in Mongolia and Estonia, worked on the Foreign Relations Committees of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, and served as Director for NATO and European Affairs at the Atlantic Council of the United States in Washington, D.C. Thomas Hanson is the Diplomat in Residence at the Alworth Institute for International Affairs at the University of Minnesota – Duluth and has taught diplomacy at Carleton College. He serves as Chair of the Minnesota Committee on Foreign Relations, Co-Chair of the Minnesota China Business Council, and is involved with several other organizations, including the U.S. Foreign Policy Working Group of the British International Studies Association. Hanson frequently speaks on international issues, contributes to media, and delivers an annual U.S. Foreign Policy Update. Adults with Disabilities - My Choice, My Art, MeLifelong LearningJoin us for this vibrant and inclusive art experience tailored to every skill level! In this engaging series, each participant will create up to 2-3 unique artworks using an array of mixed media of their choice-from bold acrylics and paint markers to expressive pastels and color pencils. With a cozy and person-centered class size limited to 6, you'll receive lots of one-to-one support and the freedom to choose your inspiration: whether it's your beloved pet, a mouth-watering dessert, or a favorite vacation spot-special requests are warmly welcomed. Have fun, grow your confidence and creativity, all while learning more about you! Each student or their guardian is required to have a conversation with Candice Simpson, the instructor, prior to the class start date. This will allow her to learn about the students' individual needs/circumstance. She will reach out to each student prior to the start date. Registration for this class closes 5 business days before the first day of class. Please note that the guardian will remain on site in the welcome area of the Edina Community Center building. In this imaginative afterschool art class, students in grades 3–5 will dive into the whimsical world of miniatures. From tiny sculptures that fit in the palm of your hand to miniature paintings and detailed micro-drawings, young artists will explore a variety of materials and techniques on a super small scale. Each week, we'll focus on a new miniature project—like sculpting a tiny meal from clay, painting a pocket-sized landscape, or drawing a whole world on a sticker! Students will unwind and relax after school days by bringing what's inside of them to the outside on paper. Mindful projects like bracelet making with positive words, prayer and/or wish boxes, kaleidoscope art, and model magic creatures are all in this class.
