Learn to Fish at Lake Normandale: Gr. 4-9

Youth / Sports, Health & Fitness -
Youth Summer 2026

Get ready for a crash course of fishing in Minnesota with plenty of hands-on experience! In this class we will be learning all about fishing laws, etiquette, species, knots, pole/reel setup, casting, bait, and targeting certain fish. We will then practice our new skills while we're at the lake. That's correct... I said at the lake! This class will take place at South View Middle School the first day, but the following days will all take place at Lake Normandale in Bloomington. This lake is roughly 3 miles away, and is known to be great for sunfish, bass, pike, and carp fishing. No supplies, previous knowledge, or fishing licenses required.

Please have your child bring: Sunscreen, a water bottle, a nut free snack, and a hat (optional).

The instructor will provide: The poles, tackle, and bait. This is a beginner course designed to teach your children how to set up their own poles, and fish without assistance moving forward. Join us for some outdoor fun as we connect with nature, and discover what it takes to fish Minnesota

-This class ends at 12:30pm and takes place off site Tuesday-Thursday. Because of these reasons, participants will no be able to attend Lunch Bunch/Sandwich Society.
